Hi my name is Jess, the smiling face behind Wish upon a Rainbow. I have been making, creating and selling bags since 2019, and I have come a long way since then

I specialise in making magical and park hopping bags for everything from holidays to everyday life.

At the moment, the shop is closed as I work though a wait list I started last year, but I will be opening for a Ready to Ship sale later in the year

Have you made anything this year? I spent so long, focusing on sewing, that I lost a lot of love for other craft that I enjoy doing, and it’s been really nice over the last 12 months to pick up some old and new hobbies that I used to love doing! And I love Valentine’s Day, so it was just so lovely to get creative!

I won’t lie when someone chose this print, inspired by the popcorn boxes in the most magical place at earth, for a custom circle bag order, I was a little unsure what I was going to pair with it. But sometimes the prints that challenge us the most are the ones that I am happiest with when they are done!

My second version of the Picese addon pack for my tester handbag was this saddle bag. I have wanted a classic saddle bag pattern for ages, so I was so excited when I saw this option, and it is definitely worth buying the addon pack for.

The black and pastel colour pallet is a favourite of mine so I love this simplistic but effective design on the front flap of it! I definitely see more examples of this design coming to the shop. What do you think, too simplistic or Classic?

It’s still only January, and I’ve already ticked off one of my goals for the year, pattern testing again! Of course it was for the wonderful @knottedthreadsco, and the new Pieces add on pack for the popular Aries will be available for purchase later today!

I loved sewing this bag, and all the new features the pattern has, there are so many pocket options. Of course I had to make this super fun valentines one to match all my best dopamine dressing outfits. I love how a chain strap can make it more of a baguette bag, or a seatbelt makes it a conventional crossbody bag.

This bag uses the new strap connector, the interior slip pocket and the overlay zipper, to add even more pockets to this bag.

It’s time to run a competition, I’m not sure what the prize will be because it’s for in 12 months time. Wishing I was back here with a gingerbread in hand! I love this ginger bread backpack that I sewed for my latest trip, to Disneyland Paris it worked perfectly with my outfit, and snack! Disneyland is honestly the most magical place at Christmas, give me that over WDW any day of the week 😅😅

Hopefully I’ll feel a bit better soon as I can’t wait to get into the office and sew some of these backpacks up! Especially now I know I can make them using part cotton fabric too! Christmas backpacks Should we make a couple of them? Let me know what you think!

A moment for my favourite bag of the trip. Being able to make bags has its uses, as I made this icecream drip Mav Pack to match my @dollyanddotty dress! Honestly I felt like a princess all day, I got so so many compliments!

Jennifer from @wishes.in.wonderland did a fab job with the custom matching ears as well.

I think we need bags to match all our dresses! If your reading this still, it’s your sign to dress however you want to dress as when you do, your confidence will come through and you’ll be amazed how many people notice 🧡🩷

I know you have all wanted a classic park backpack for so long, so I finally cracked and made one before my trip and honestly … I loved it.

It felt such nice quality and it was so spacious and great for days in the parks, and still looked great at the end of my trip! I loved this safari theme too it was perfect for animal kingdom.

I’d love to know what you think, I’ve always been reluctant to make this style of bag because there are already lots of backpacks like this out there, but perhaps there is still some space for some Wish upon a Rainbow ones?

It’s been one year to the day since I launched my favourite ever bag collection, which was of course a collaboration with @deerheartprintco. @thesewdoughco pumpkins really helped it feel like I was in my own pumpkin patch.

I may not be creating as much at the moment, but I still wanted to share some autumn and fall joy with you as we enter the best time of the year! Hello September 🧡💛🤎 Hopefully I’ll have a few of these bits ready to ship at the end of the month.

I had the absolute time of my life on Monday seeing Taylor Swift at London Wembley. I very much am just a baby Swiftie but it was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, and getting to experience that with 3 of my closest friends made it so much sweeter 🩷

You know I had to make a special bag so hand beaded this lover bag, as I had the perfect fabric to evoke the album cover! Definitely think I should do some more beaded bags what do we think?

I love dopamine dressing so much. 🌈🌈 It really has helped me finding my confidence in my body, and puts a smile on my face! And having magical and wonderful bags to match is really a great way to tie an outfit together, so I have started making bags that match my outfits!

Pattern testing is such a great honour, that someone thinks my work is good enough to give my opinion on a pattern outstands me 🥰

My biggest challenge has often been my own brain, but that’s getting better! Which I think we can tell just when my face looks this happy!

And the @themaskedmedusa said the most amazing thing to me the other day, that she sees every one of my bags that she owns as a piece of evidence of the mental challenges Ive overcome to get there, all the self doubt, perseverance and worries. And isn’t that the most incredible thing to say.
Safe to say it made me cry 💜🧡

One of my goals as a bag maker was to be able to design my own little ‘collections’ and thanks to @deerheartprintco I’ve been able to make that happen time and time again!

Human touch! Todays #marchmeetthemaker2024 prompt.

Everything about Wish upon a rainbow is full of the human touch, as every little thing is over considered and cut, glued, painted and of course stitched by me! As you can see, my phone is full of videos of my hands working on everything!

But it’s also full of other human touches, me remembering all my customers by what bags I remember they own, remembering if they have been on trips, got married etc. The human touch is also in the hours I spent fretting, worrying and panicking about orders. Wish upon a rainbow is very me, and I am very human.

The best thing about ordering from a small buisness is it’s full of a person busy being a human!

Hi, my name is Jess, and I am actually going to have a go at doing March meet the maker this year.

Today’s prompt is storytime, a great way to share a bit more about me, and I’m going to use it’s as a chance to tell a story about development of style.

To start off with if you’ve never seen me on your feed before, I’m 29 from Worcestershire in the UK, and I make bags! Bags for me always started off as a place to create and sew, and initially to sew something that weren’t clothes. When I started sewing in 2017 clothes were something that struggled with sewing, because of my relationship with my body. But through bags I could create something beautiful and colourful.

Being able to have this creative outlet has really brought out more and more confidence in me, and being able to, express myself through colours in my work has helped me bring that into my daily life, and for that, I’m so grateful. It was really through this I was able to develop my strong sense of self expression through clothes, which had helped me develop a better relationship with my body and appearance

I hope through creating that I have been able to bring, brightness and colours to others as well. I’m hoping to harness me really accepting my inner style, this year to develop new lines of bags, which I really feel reflect where I am now in 2024 - and hope you stick around for the next chapter of the story.

I wasn’t sure if to share this as it’s about me and not so much my shop, but 2023 was the year I said yes to so much of life and I really saw a change in me and I am really hoping that was reflected in the shop as well 💕 Thanks so much for helping me create a space i felt happy always being me and knowing it would be accepted.
